Free Solid Waste Managment Training

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development Program has awarded a grant to the National Indian Justice Center (NIJC) to develop and deliver a 2 day training session on Safety and Recycling Strategies for Cleaning Up Illegal Dumps on Tribal Lands. The focus of the training session will be on: Safety and Hazardous Waste regulations—an overview of federal safety and haz¬ardous waste regulations that may apply to illegal dump clean up projects; Safety Risks and Hazards in Illegal Dump Clean Ups; Pre¬venting Risks and Hazards in solid waste management projects, and Recycling strategies for items found in illegal dumps. The training will also offer an overview of tribal governance as it relates to solid waste management, worker safety, current and critical issues asso¬ciated with illegal dumping, RCRA issues and other updates on solid waste management.
This course is designed for tribal elected officials, tribal environmental personnel, Solid Waste management personnel, state and federal EPA personnel that work with tribes to address solid waste management issues and others interested in increasing the ca¬pacity of tribes to address worker and community safety, recycling and other solid waste management issues.

LoGISTICS: This training session will be conducted at the Spa Resort Casino, 100 North Indian Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA, 92262; Tel: (800) 854-1279. All individuals are responsible for their own lodging. The Spa Resort Casino is holding a block of rooms at a rate of $89.00 (single/double), plus 14% Occupancy Tax a 2% Business Improvement District Assessment, and $10 nightly resort fee per room night, for participants. A one night room deposit will be required at the time of booking. This special rate will be available until May 4, 2012.
