EPA is currently recruiting members to the U.S. National Advisory Committee (NAC) and the U.S. Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC). The NAC and GAC are U.S. federal advisory committees that advise the EPA Administrator on issues related to the implementation of the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC), i.e., the environmental side accord to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
ACTION REQUEST:
• We would like to request your assistance in identifying potential nominees in the following six sectors: academia, environmental NGO's, industry, state government, local government & tribal government representatives. The NAC is seeking nominees to fill vacancies in the environmental NGO, academic, and the private industry sectors, and the GAC is seeking nominees in the state, local & tribal government sectors.
• We are looking for individuals that are engaged in North American environmental issues and have knowledge of the work of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC), which is the institution created by the NAAEC to support the trilateral environmental initiatives. Our goal is to always have a balanced representation of environmental leaders throughout the entire continental U.S., so please think widely when nominating representatives.

Committees Background:
The NAC and GAC are federal advisory committees that advise the EPA Administrator on issues related to the implementation of the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC), the environmental side accord to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The committees are manage from EPA's Office of Federal Advisory Committee Management and Outreach in collaboration with the Office of International & Tribal Affairs.
The NAC and GAC meet three times a year. The GAC is composed of representatives from, state, local, and tribal government officials. The NAC is composed of representatives from academia, industry, and environmental NGO's. Appointments to the NAC and GAC are for two-year terms with the possibility of renewal. The next official meeting is scheduled for April 26-27, 2012, in Washington, D.C.
