Fiscal Year 2012 Wetland Grants

The US EPA, Region 9, Request for Proposals (RFP) for
Fiscal Year 2012 Wetland Program Development Grants
opened on Monday, January 23, 2012.

Application Deadline: Thursday, March 15, 2012.

What: This competitive grant program is for funding projects that build wetland protection programs for States, Tribes and Territories.

Applicants should show how their project would move the State's, Tribe's or Territory's wetland program forward.

States and Tribes that have an EPA-accepted Wetland Program Plan should demonstrate how their proposed work relates to their Wetland Program Plan.

Who: Funding is available to States, Tribes, Territories, local governments, interstate
organizations, and intertribal consortia.

There are two funding tracks in the RFP.

Track One is for States and Tribes that have an EPA-accepted Wetland Program Plan, or who want to develop a Wetland Program Plan as part of their proposed project.

All others may only apply under Track Two of the RFP, including:
- eligible local governments, interstate agencies, intertribal consortia, and universities that are agencies of a state government; and
- States and Tribes whose project is not associated with an existing or proposed Wetland Program Plan.

Note that States and Tribes that apply under Track One may submit an additional proposal under Track Two.

How Much: EPA anticipates that:
- Approximately $1,650,250 is available for this Region 9 RFP, in total;
- For Track One, approximately $495,075 to $1,237,687 is available;
- For Track Two, approximately $412,563 to $1,155,175 is available;
- From 6 to 15 awards will be made;
- Awards will likely range from $50,000 to $350,000 in Federal funds.

When: Hard copy applications (with a copy on a compact disk) must be received by 5:00 P.M. PDT Thursday, March 15, 2012. Proposals submitted electronically through Grants.gov must be received by 8:59 P.M. PDT Thursday, March 15, 2012.

(If you do choose to submit your application through Grants.gov, then I encourage you to do so well in advance of the due date to allow time for you to resolve any errors.)

Key dates for this grant selection process are:

Thursday, March 15, 2012 - Deadline for signed applications.
Thursday, April 19 2012 (tentative) - US EPA Region 9 announces preliminary selections for grant awards.
Tuesday, July 31, 2012 (tentative) - Grant awards finalized.
