DOI ESRI Geospatial Support for Tribal Entitites

Hello Everyone,

Fires, floods, and earthquakes pose significant threats in Region IX, particularly in rural areas where most tribal populations exist.
Knowing the potential risks, anticipating them, and being properly prepared before, during, and after a disaster could mean the difference between the total loss of a resource and limiting or eliminating the resulting damage. It is important for Tribal Nations to have an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and take mitigation measures before a disaster or emergency occurs.



A Hazard Mitigation Plan complete with maps of pre-identified structures at risk can aid the emergency managers. Emergency planning maps can also facilitate response during or after an event, identify hazards, and identify risk vulnerabilities.



Here is some good information that has come to my attention. The Office of Trust Services Geospatial Support (OTSGS) provides Esri* products and GIS training to employees of Federally Recognized Tribal Entities (FRTE) at no cost. That is ArcGIS Desktop & ArcGIS Server with most extensions as well as the Esri Online Virtual Campus Course through the BIA.

*Esri is a software development and services company that provides geographic information system (GIS) that integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. This information can be transformed in databases, graphs, and maps.



The Enterprise License Agreement provides:



* ArcGIS core software and most extensions

* Select Virtual Campus Standard Subscription courses and
workshops

* Paid maintenance for existing products

* A limited number of Esri specialty products

* Discounts on purchases of other Esri and third-party royalty
products

* Technical Support: All technical support inquiries should be
directed to the OTSGS



Training: The Office of Trust Services Geospatial Support (OTSGS) also provides GIS training and there is NO TUITION COST for this training.
Training courses are taught at the OTSGS Lakewood Training Facility in Lakewood, Colorado and various field locations.
