US EPA Region 9 is sponsoring a Refrigerant Disposal and Certification Training on Monday, January 30th through Wednesday, February 1st from 9:00 am-5:00 pm. This event will be hosted by the Salt River Landfill in Scottsdale Arizona.
Appliances with cooling elements, such as motor vehicle air conditioners, household refrigerators and freezers, window air conditioners, water coolers, vending machines, ice makers and dehumidifiers, are subject to EPA’s safe disposal requirements. Under the federal regulations, you are responsible for making sure the refrigerant has been properly removed before an appliance is recycled.
Participants will receive hands-on training on how to remove refrigerants from used refrigerators and other white goods. After viewing presentations, participants will take an exam to be certified and will also have the opportunity to work hands-on on used appliances.
If you are interested in attending this training, please RSVP by January 13 to hold one spot for your tribe via email Chuck Swanson at swanson.charles@epa.gov or call 415-947-4219. Space is limited to 15 participants. We would like to make sure that one member of all interested tribes is able to participate and then offer space to more than one participant from each tribe.
Travel to this training can be funded through your GAP Grant (contact your project officer) or through the Owens Valley Travel Fund (contact Gilbert Pasqua 415-972-3788).
