2018 TLEF Sneak Peek

Post by NaepcA1 »

Hello everyone,

We wanted to give you a few sneak peeks into a few things we are planning for the 2018 Tribal Lands and Environment Forum. We are still accepting proposals for trainings and breakout sessions until May 4. Immediately after that date we’ll be making our selections and establishing the full and final agenda.

But in the meantime, we’ve also been working with colleagues at many different Tribes and groups on some other exciting opportunities for you. We already have numerous field trips in the works, such as:
• All-day field trip on Monday to the Bunker Hill Superfund site (hosted by the Coeur d’Alene Tribe)
• All-day field trip on Monday to the Midnite Mine Superfund site (hosted by the Spokane Tribe)
• All-day field trip on Monday to the Colville Confederated Tribes’ Recycling Facilities
• All-day field trip on Monday to the Benewah Creek restoration project and Qhest Life Garden (hosted by the Coeur d’Alene Tribe)
• Monday morning tour and hands-on training at the City of Spokane’s Composting Facilities
• Morning tour on Tuesday of the Inland Empire Paper Company facilities
• Morning tour on Tuesday of both the Spokane Waste-to-Energy plant and Materials Recovery Facility
• Morning tour on Tuesday of a local, active, brownfield remediation project

Once we have everything finalized for the field trips we’ll start accepting sign-ups.

We are also working closely with many colleagues around Spokane on some special cultural events in the evening that will highlight local Tribes. As those plans develop we’ll be sending out additional updates.

We are so thankful for all the wonderful assistance we’ve been receiving from Local Tribes, and we think this is going to be the most exciting, educational, and inspiring TLEF yet. We look forward to seeing you in August!
