Tribal leaders seeking to successfully prepare for, respond to, and recover from incidents and disasters will benefit from an understanding of emergency management concepts and operations. Added insight into emergency management concepts is even more critical in light of the recent amendments to the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. The demanding schedule of tribal officials’ schedules rarely allows them to attend workshops or training sessions which might provide additional knowledge and skills in dealing with disaster situations. This four-hour course is designed to help tribal leaders understand how an effective emergency management can improve the sustainability of their tribal community and better protect tribal citizens, lands, culture, and sovereignty.
Course topics will include:
 The components of an effective emergency management program
 The role of a Tribal Emergency Manager
 The roles of tribal leaders in emergency management
 An overview of FEMA programs available to tribal governments
Upon completion of the course, participants submitting an application will be mailed an Emergency Management Institute certificate of completion for .4 CEUs. Participants will be required to enter a FEMA Student Identification Number (SID) on your application. PRIOR TO THE CLASS, please obtain an SID by going to https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/ . Please bring your FEMA SID number with you to the class.
Intended Audience: Tribal elected and appointed officials and department heads.
