Landfire Project Funding FY12

To All:

NIFC has some funding available to fund some LANDFIRE update projects to improve accuracy of the LANDFIRE database and data. If you are not aware, LANDFIRE data is the basis for many of the models used to prioritize Fuels Management Projects for funding for each fiscal year. For the past couple years, the Department of the Interior has utilized the Hazardous Fuels Priority Allocation System (HFPAS) to prioritize projects for funding. HFPAS is hugely dependent on LANDFIRE data, and therefore very critical that we have accurate LANDFIRE data for the DOI landbases, which include all Tribal Trust lands. If you have any proposed LANDFIRE projects, or would like to request funding, we need to receive your project proposals ASAP!!!!! Please refer to the attached email and attachment for more details on the LANDFIRE project. The initial deadline was July 27, but NIFC is will willing to accept project proposals.

Please submit your LANDFIRE project proposal to Josh Simmons, Regional Fuels Management Specialist by email at joshua.simmons@bia.gov ASAP!!!!! Being that the original deadline has come and passed, we need these proposals quickly!!!! Your proposal should the following:

1. Executive Summary
2. Statement of the issue(s)
3. Identify the methodology
4. State the deliverables (include the due date of November 1, 2012), as per the Kafka Letter attached
5. Budget
6. Conclusion

You can use the attached letter for due date and other technical reference.
