Outreach Coordinator - San Diego
Founded during the 2001 California energy crisis, GRID Alternatives’ mission is to empower communities in need by providing renewable energy and energy efficiency services, equipment, and training. Through our flagship Solar Affordable Housing Program, we install solar electric systems for low-income homeowners with volunteers and job trainees, enhancing long-term housing affordability for low-income households by reducing their energy costs, and expanding economic opportunity by providing skills and training in the growing field of solar electricity.
We are looking for a full-time Outreach Coordinator to join our San Diego team and work directly with low-income clients, assisting them with the process of applying for the solar program and conducting direct outreach within targeted communities to increase the number of clients served.
Position Responsibilities
Create and implement an outreach strategy to increase number of low-income clients served in targeted areas of San Diego County
Manage all aspects of client application process including outreach, home site visits, educating families about solar, energy efficiency and the details of our program, walking clients through the application process, and assisting them with all related paperwork
Conduct homeowner training sessions on owning and caring for a solar electric system
Along with Regional Director, responsible for meeting aggressive goals for increasing number of clients served in the region
Create and maintain partnerships with other non-profits, government agencies, and housing developers serving low-income homeowners in order to more effectively engage clients
Increase community awareness and support of GRID Alternatives’ work and mission including attending and speaking at community meetings and other functions
Provide in-house information to GRID staff and board to deepen GRID Alternatives’ understanding of community concerns, problems, and desires
Position Requirements
Excellent communication skills (ability to meet with partner organizations, speak to groups about GRID Alternatives’ work, educate families about our services, be a positive GRID Alternatives representative in the community)
Experience working with economically disadvantaged communities and with diverse populations
Ability to relate to and respect diverse populations
Bilingual Spanish/English (fluent spoken and written)
Proficient with computers, internet, MS Office and able to quickly learn how to use new databases and applications
Flexible and willing to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to rapidly growing organization
Available for occasional evening and weekend work
Able and willing to travel throughout San Diego County. GRID Alternatives provides travel reimbursement and applicant must have a reliable vehicle and hold a valid drivers license
Preferred Qualifications
Outreach experience, especially in San Diego
Passion for environmental justice and working with low-income communities, sustainability, affordable housing, the environment
Experience with renewable energy or knowledge of the basics of solar energy
Office Location
This position is based out of GRID Alternatives' San Diego office, located in Barrio Logan.
Compensation
$38,000 annually plus health, dental, paid time off, and optional 403b retirement enrollment
