Course Description
This two-day course is intended for those who have some technical or management background in environmental or natural resource work. It has a cross-media focus and will include a tribal case study. The course is open to current tribal environmental and natural resource managers and to upper level NAU students who would like to work in a tribal environmental or natural resource program. This course does not carry academic credit.
Topics Include:
o Introduction to Planning as a Tool
Setting goals
Timelines and milestones
o Strategic Planning
Short-term planning
Mid-term planning
Long-term planning
Building relationships
Funding a program
o Action/Work plans
o Writing quarterly reports
Training Course Costs
Attendees will cover their own travel costs (transportation, lodging, meals). There will be a small registration fee ($50) to cover the cost of training materials and course preparation.
Travel Logistics
Attendees will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging arrangements. Information about the training facility and nearby hotels will be sent when applicants are notified of acceptance to this course. Families are not encouraged to travel as full participation by the attendee is required.
Applying for the Course
Read all enclosed information carefully. Fill out both sides of the enclosed Application Form and fax it to Pat Ellsworth at ITEP (928-523-1266) by the Pre-Registration date (December 15, 2010) for priority consideration. Applications received after the pre-registration date will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Information obtained on the application form is used to aid the selection process and prepare instructors for interaction with participants; please be as specific as possible. Incomplete application forms may be omitted from the applicant pool.
Selection for the course will be on a "space availability" basis and will be limited to 25 registrants. ITEP staff will review each application and will determine those who would most benefit from this training.
Additional Responsibilities
Once you have agreed to attend it is essential that you complete the training course in full in order to receive your Certificate of Completion. Poor attendance at the course may jeopardize your eligibility for future training courses.
