Basic GIS with ArcGIS 10
Posted: Mon Aug 26, 2013 8:36 pm
Good morning Everyone,
NAEPC, Loma Linda University School of Public Health, and the California Nevada Public Health Training Center will be providing a two-day training on Basic GIS with ArcGIS 10 on August 13-14, 2013 at the Loma Linda University Centennial Complex in Loma Linda, CA.
The goal of this training is to increase the knowledge and skills in geospatial techniques using ArcGIS software focusing on environmental and health data and scenarios. The two-day workshop will train participants on how to use State-of-the-Art GIS software to collect, manage, and display spatial data. The training will be largely hands-on. The first day will introduce participants to basic concepts, functionality and skills of the ArcGIS 10 software. In day 2, participants will learn how to implement the field technique known as Rapid Needs Assessment (RNA). RNA allows to quickly identify and prioritize needs and appropriately direct personnel, material resources, and supplies to target locations. Participants will learn how to plan in the lab a well established GIS-based sampling approach to facilitate and direct the field survey. They will then implement a field RNA simulation of a natural disaster in the neighborhoods surrounding the LLU campus by employing smart phones and/or tablets to capture and upload location-specific data. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring on Day 2 their Apple iOS phones, broadband tablets, or Android devices for the field activities. More information on mapping with smartphones and tablets can be found at: http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/sma ... lector-app. The free Collector app to be used in the field exercise can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
If you are interested in attending this training, please fill out attached registration form and submit via email to cfoster@naepc.com or fax to 951-296-5109 by August 9th. Please forward to those who would be interested in attending.
