Description: Racial and ethnic minority populations, low socioeconomic status populations, and rural and inner-city populations are disproportionately burdened by many diseases and conditions, resulting in health disparities. According to Healthy People 2020, a health disparity is “a particular type of health difference that is closely linked with social, economic, and/or environmental disadvantage.” Expanding this definition, environmental health disparities is the unique contribution of the environment to health differences.
