1) The Wildlife Conservation Society's North America Program is pleased to announce the next round of grantmaking through the WCS Climate Adaptation Fund - a program to support projects that demonstrate effective interventions for wildlife adaptation to climate change. Interested organizations should carefully review the guidelines outlined in the Request for Proposals (RFP) below, and submit the required pre-proposal application no later than 5:00 PM MST on Friday, March 30, 2012. With funding provided by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and managed by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), the WCS Climate Adaptation Fund will provide up to $3.1 million in competitive grants in 2012 of 1-2 years in length. Awards will be made to nonprofit conservation organizations for applied, on-the-ground projects focused on implementing priority conservation actions for climate adaptation at a landscape scale. 2) The California Landscape Conservation Cooperative (CA LCC) is seeking pre-proposals for collaborative science projects that meet the goals of our partnership. The purpose of the CA LCC is to inform and promote integrated science, natural resource management and conservation to address impacts of climate change and other stressors within and across ecosystems. Projects should address at least one of two priority issues: (1) Decision support for managers; or (2) Ecosystem impact and response, and tracking change specific to manager needs.
Detailed priorities are available on the website form (CaliforniaLCC.org). Approximately $500,000 - $800,000 is available – proposals are recommended to request between $25,000 - $100,000. Estimated number of awards is 5-8. Any entity capable of entering into an agreement with the Federal government is eligible to apply. This includes, but is not limited to, non-governmental organizations, universities, and local, state or federal agencies.Pre_proposals should be no more than 2 pages. 1) Caltrans Offers Transportation Planning Grants. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is accepting applications for its 2012-2013 Transportation Planning Grants. As part of this grant program, Caltrans has made $3 million available for community-based transportation planning grants (CBTP), $3 million for environmental justice grants (EJ), and $1 million for rural or small urban transit planning studies. CBTP grants fund coordinated land use planning that promotes public engagement, livable communities, and a sustainable transportation system. EJ grants support community involvement in planning to improve mobility, access, safety, and opportunities for affordable housing and economic development. Rural or small urban transit planning studies grants fund public transportation studies in rural areas and urban areas with a transit service population of 100,000 or less. 2) Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Offers "Roadmaps to Health" Community Grants. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is accepting applications for the "Roadmaps to Health" Community Grants program. The grants will provide support to communities for implementing policy or system changes that address one of the social or economic factors that most strongly influence health outcomes in their communities. These factors include education; employment and income; family and social support; and community safety. Grantees must be organizations that participate in established coalitions or networks that span multiple sectors and perspectives and may include representatives from business, education, public health, health care, community organizations, community members, policy advocates, foundations, and policy makers. Applicants must engage community members in the planning and implementation of projects, and must collaborate with organizations that have expertise in improving public health. Applicants must also secure 100% matching support, which includes cash and in-kind support. Nonprofit organizations as well as tribal, state or local agencies may apply. 3) EPA Green Infrastructure Technical Assistance – Approximately $950,000
Application Due: April 6, 2012
Eligible Entities: Any combination of local government department, office, agency or non-profit. EPA's Green Infrastructure Program has announced the availability of direct assistance from EPA to facilitate the use of green infrastructure to protect water quality. Green infrastructure uses vegetation, soils, and natural processes to manage stormwater, and can decrease temperatures in the urban environment by deflecting solar radiation, providing shade, and removing heat from the air through evapotranspiration. Technical assistance will be provided through EPA contract support and can help communities with any level of green infrastructure implementation. The value of the assistance available to each of the 10 to 20 projects selected will be approximately $50,000 to $100,000.
4) US Department of Housing and Urban Development Announces $110 Million for Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grants. The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced the availability of $110 million for its Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant Program in 2012. Choice Neighborhood Grants help communities transform neighborhoods by revitalizing distressed public and assisted housing projects and investing in schools, public transportation, services, and improved access to jobs. Public housing authorities, local governments, nonprofits, tribes, and for-profit developers who partner with public entities are eligible to apply for the Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grants. In 2011, San Francisco received a Choice Neighborhood Implementation Grant for $30.5 million. Applications are due by April 10, 2012. Click here to learn more.
