The Pollution Prevention (P2) grant program funds state and tribal technical assistance projects to help businesses identify better environmental strategies and solutions for reducing or eliminating waste at the source. The RFP has been posted to -- http://epa.gov/p2/pubs/grants/ppis/2012rfpp2grant.pdf.
Proposals are due on -- Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Note the relatively short turn-around time this year.
Applicants are required to submit proposals by mail or through Grants.gov. Following OGD guidelines, emailed and faxed submissions should not be accepted.
A request will be sent to have the RFP linked to NPPR's site (http://www.p2.org) and to the Tribal P2 site (http://www.tribalp2.org).
The P2 grant program has identified five national focus areas – greenhouse gas reduction, toxic and hazardous materials reduction, resource conservation, business efficiency and P2 integration. Along with other requirements proposals must describe activities that address one or more of the national focus areas noted below in order to be considered for funding:
1. Greenhouse Gas Reduction: The proposal must describe how project activities will contribute toward reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs) by promoting P2 measures and activities.
2. Toxic and Hazardous Materials Reduction: The proposal must describe how project activities will reduce or eliminate the use of toxic and/or hazardous materials resulting in reduced risks to public health and the environment.
3. Resource Conservation: The proposal must describe how project activities will reduce the use of raw materials; conserve energy, water or other resources.
4. Promote Business Efficiency: The proposal must describe how project activities will produce economic benefits and improve environmental performance.
5. Promote P2 Integration: The proposal must describe how project activities will help to institutionalize and/or integrate P2 practices in government services, policies, and initiatives.
