EPA has launched a new workgroup to discuss the possibility of considering water utilities' climate readiness in credit rating assessments, an effort that could be a driver for weighing drinking water and wastewater utitlities' preparedness for climate effects at a time when EPA is reluctant to do so in enforcement settlements.

EPA is urging states to adopt strict requirements for limiting potential arsenic and other contamination when permitting aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) operations -- a water management tool believed by many to be a key strategy for mitigating the water impacts of climate change.
