Subject: Improving Water Quality in the San Diego Bay Watershed

Dear Friends of the San Diego Bay Watershed,

Your help is needed to develop new strategies for improving water quality in our region’s creeks, rivers, and ocean. The agencies responsible for protecting the San Diego Bay Watershed are developing a new Water Quality Improvement Plan that will include strategies for identifying and addressing high priority water quality concerns in this area.

In the San Diego Bay Watershed, the responsible agencies include the Cities of Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, and San Diego; the County of San Diego, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, and the San Diego Unified Port District.

We need public input and ideas to make this plan as strong as possible and want to hear from you about how to do that.

The first workshop for the San Diego Bay Watershed will be held:

Friday, November 22, 2013
6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
City of Chula Vista Public Works Center
1800 Maxwell Road
Chula Vista, CA 91911

We look forward to meeting you at the workshop. Please help get the word out by sending this invitation to any community groups, businesses or residents that may be interested in attending.

In addition, the agencies listed above are in the process of forming a Consultation Panel for the San Diego Bay Watershed to provide recommendations for the content of the Water Quality Improvement Plan. Community participation is an integral part of the Water Quality Improvement Plan development process, and we ask for your participation in this important panel to assist us with plan development.

Please see the attached charter and interest form for more information about the requirements for panel members. We ask that if you are interested in serving on the panel, please complete and return the interest form to gnelson@imperialbeachca.gov by close of business on Monday, December 2, 2013.

Finally, all of the agencies working on the new Water Quality Improvement Plan appreciate receiving any information you may have pertaining to the physical, chemical, or biological history of the watershed - specifically any data you may have regarding measurements of water quality. We will be compiling the data we receive and consider it to identify priority water quality conditions and sources of pollutants to improve water quality throughout the region. We prefer to collect all data in electronic forms (Excel format is preferred, though Adobe PDF and other file types can be accepted). Ideally, large data sets should be accompanied by a summary report with recommendations for water quality priorities and strategies.

Our deadline is Monday, December 2, 2013 for all data collection. Please submit data to gnelson@imperialbeachca.gov. For data files over 2MB, please mail your contact information and CD or DVD containing the file to the City of Chula Vista, Attention: Khosro Aminpour, 1800 Maxwell Road, Chula Vista, CA 91911.

Thank you for your interest in improving water quality in the San Diego Bay Watershed. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact us at: gnelson@imperialbeachca.gov.
