Position: Environmental Technician
Supervised by: Water Quality Coordinator
Department: Environmental Management Office
Pay Rate: T-4 $14.42-$20.19/Hr ($29,993.60-$41,995.20/Annually) DOQ
FLSA: Non-Exempt, Hourly, Full Time
General Duties: The Environmental Technician will primarily be required to assist with field and
lab work as instructed and perform miscellaneous office tasks that support the objectives, goals, and
activities of the Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Environmental Management Office and Water Quality Control
Program. The applicant must demonstrate the potential to succeed in the job and the ability to
complete on-the-job training.
Responsibilities:
Assist water quality staff with sampling, monitoring, testing and calibration activities including:
· Enter and update field data into the Water Quality database
· Order supplies and equipment
· Maintain office, laboratory, and field equipment
· Develop and participate in community education and outreach activities (First Bloom,
reservation clean-up days, tribal environmental youth camp, Earth Day event, newsletters,
open-house, classroom demonstrations, etc)
· Coordinate and network with Tribal, Federal, State and Local officials
· Prepare and organize meeting minutes, agendas, action items and reports, billing records, and
other clerical tasks as assigned
· Perform other duties as assigned

Experience and Education:
· Must possess a high school diploma, or equivalent
· Knowledge, experience, and/or skills in one or more of the following fields: water quality
monitoring, hydrology, microbiology, laboratory techniques, and data interpretation. Familiarity
with water quality monitoring protocols and equipment.

Other Requirements:
· Knowledge and experience with GIS and GPS, preferred.
· Advanced experience with common computer operating systems and software such as
Microsoft Windows (e.g. XP, Vista, 7), Microsoft Office and Adobe software packages
· Possess proficient verbal and written communication skills
· Personable, cooperative and willing to work with a variety of people at various levels of Tribal,
Federal, State and Local governments
· Possess initiative and is comfortable performing tasks on time with minimal supervision
· Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
· Must be able to travel overnight and attend various trainings, workshops and conferences
· Must be able to lift 50 lbs
· Must demonstrate initiative, commitment, dedicated work ethic, and positive attitude to
job duties and tribal environmental goals and objectives
· The individual must comply with the Driving Policy, Drug-Free Workplace, and the Pre-
Employment Selection policy.
· Must have the ability to work with people from diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic
backgrounds and possess a basic knowledge of Native American communities and always
maintain cultural sensitivity.
Indian Preference: Native American Indian preference shall apply pursuant to the prevailing Bishop Tribal Employment
Rights Ordinance and the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (24 U.S.C. 450, et seq,), 25 CFR 271.44
and other relevant laws.
