The Kashia Band of Pomo Indians of Stewarts Point Rancheria is seeking a qualified individual to fill a full-time Environmental Planning Technician-I position. The position is responsible for technical and field support to the Kashia Department of Environmental Planning under the direction of the Environmental Planning Director. The Environmental Technician will be assigned tasks in the fields of environmental education, solid waste management, fire protection, emergency response, water and air quality, environmental ordinances development, and watershed management. The Environmental Technician will also be responsible for preparing educational materials, and coordinating environmental fairs, field trips, and other environmental education related activities for the Kashia School.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
• Familiarity with Tribal Governments.
• Knowledge of the principles of federal Indian law, tribal sovereignty, and self-determination.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
• Interest in environmental issues with understanding of environmental concerns in Indian Country.
• Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently, and effectively handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Prepare environmental education activities on and off Tribal land.
• Prepare inventories and assessments of Tribal resources including solid waste, public outreach, and emergency preparedness.
• Facilitate recycling and clean up projects.
• Gather field information for engineering, science, and planning analysis.
• Attend meetings and participate in inter-agency efforts to protect Tribal resources.
• Prepare newsletter, reports, ordinances, and technical documents.
• Perform literature research on environmental issues.
• Prepare maps and plans by using freehand and computer aided drafting methods.
• Responsible for effective document control and data entry.
• Oversee field activities Responsible for accurate construction inspection and testing.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and equipment is used safely.
• Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years experience in the environmental field; or equivalent combination of education and experience in engineering, environmental studies, environmental science or related field and/or two years experience related to tribal environmental programs.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days (30) of employment.
• Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
• Ability to interpret, produce and organize maps and blueprints.
• Ability to assist in technical and regulatory research, and prepare written reports and plans.
• Good physical condition to perform field duties.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:
Work is regularly performed both indoors in an office setting with a moderate noise level and outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur. Prolonged standing and walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground. Situations where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves, protective face shields, or hardhats are needed may occur. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Travel is required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
