Dear Tribal Partners (blind copied),

in our continuing effort to coordinate and collaborate with Tribal governments, the Carlsbad Fish and Wildlife Office invites you to attend our next Tribal coordination meeting. This event will be hosted by the Barona Band of Mission Indians at the Barona Resort and Casino Golf Events Center, 1932 Wildcat Canyon Rd, Lakeside, California on September 29, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Hotel reservations at government or Tribal rates are available on request.

A continental breakfast will be provided. Please RSVP via an email reply by Tuesday September 26 to assist in planning (simply reply to this email).

The purpose of the coordination meetings is to facilitate communication among the Service and Tribal governments Endangered Species Act issues that may be of interest or concern to your Tribe. The meetings also provide a forum to discuss any other plant and wildlife resource management issues of interest or concern to San Diego County Tribal governments.

Below are topics planned for the agenda. Thanks to Jamul Indian Village, a Kumeyaay Nation, and La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians environmental staff for suggestions:

• Introduction and activity update by Carlsbad Fish and Wildlife Office Tribal Liaison (Alison Williams-Anderson)
• New USFWS Regional Tribal Liaison introduction: Richard Adkins (including discussion of proposed changes to the eagle feather permits regulations)
• Hermes copper butterfly status assessment and potential listing (Williams-Anderson)
• Invasive nonnative species update: focus on the "stinknet" and Sahara mustard weed threats, early detection and rapid response (Williams Anderson)
• Migratory birds update and discussion: focus on recent changes to the Bald and Golden Eagle Act incidental take permit regulations (Heather Beeler and Tom Dietsch, USFWS)
• Downscaled local climate change models and impacts to tribal environmental resources (Williams-Anderson and Emilie Luciani, USFWS)
• USFWS funding sources: Partners for Fish and Wildlife Grants (Jonathan Snapp-Cook USFWS)
• Native American youth intern opportunities: fostering indigenous research methods (Palomar College Staff and Williams-Anderson)
• Recent and pending listing and recovery actions, partnership activities, etc. (USFWS staff)
• Future topics and meetings

We look forward to meeting with you and working in partnership to protect the natural resources of San Diego County. If you have questions, please contact Alison Anderson by replying to this email or at the number listed below.
