Tribal Governments are formed by and through its tribal members. It isn't only traditional and cultural knowledge housed within a tribe’s members, but it is also the deep institutional knowledge held by them which provides the foundation for tribal governance. Only tribal members can serve as leaders of a tribe and often most of the tribal staff originates from the membership. Tribes depend upon their members to not only protect their interests but also for their future survival. Actively engaging the tribal community can be a powerful tool. Tribal members are the vehicle to passing laws and enforcing them. Engaging the tribal community is an invaluable asset to any environmental program and its goals. This training will provide an overview of successful tribal community engagement programs and offer tips and tools to initiate your own activities.
